Opera Parallèle and SFJAZZ present Birds & Balls, a comedic contemporary opera coupling of Balls, a world premiere opera about the 1973 “The Battle of the Sexes.” tennis match by Emmy and GRAMMY-winning composer Laura Karpman with libretto by New York Times writer Gail Collins, and the West Coast premiere of lauded composer David T. Little and Pulitzer Prize-winning librettist Royce Vavrek’s comic opera about the Flemish folk sport of Finch-Sitting, Vinkensport.

SFJAZZ is turned into a virtual arena, with a live operatic tennis match, immersive film projections, and fashion and media social artifacts, for an evening of creative, comedic, and meaningful contemporary opera at its best!
