The Boston-based Balourdet Quartet received the Grand Prize at the 2021 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition; the top prize awarded in the 2021 Premio Paolo Borciani in Reggio Emilia, Italy; and the Gold Medal at the 2020 Fischoff Competition. Their program opens with Haydn’s signature humor and tone painting in The Bird, and the modern-day Hungarian bard Kurtag ponders the cycle of life in tribute to musicians meaningful to him, none more so than Schubert in Six Moments Musicaux. Newport Classical presents its nine-concert Chamber Series from September 2023 to June 2024 at its home venue, Newport Classical Recital Hall, bringing timeless music for today to Newport year round.
