Marcus Roberts commands a wide range of styles and interests in the traditions of keyboard greats like Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk as well as a classical sensibility. “Classical and jazz are both very sophisticated art forms,” he told NPR. “Jazz has a much shorter history, but since we make stuff up on the spot, I think that’s why we got so much done in 100 years’ time.”
