“The peerless North Indian tabla player…favors an impish strain of virtuosity.” — The New York Times

“It’s hard to imagine a better champion for Indian classical music in the West than Zakir Hussain.” — San Jose Mercury News

No one artist has done more to cultivate and expand the reach of Indian classical music than tabla master Ustad Zakir Hussain. In his first year as Resident Artistic Director at SFJAZZ, Hussain will present a pastiche of his recent explorations with jazz and world music while sharing the wealth of his masterful skills with young audiences. This special performance will highlight the genre-defying artistry of one of the world’s most prolific percussionists.
