“Strong, controlled and complete.” — The New York Times on Alicia Hall Moran

“The most provocative thinker in current jazz.” — Rolling Stone on Jason Moran

A dynamic musical couple teams up to present a genre-defying evening of pianistic and vocal magic in the intimacy of the Joe Henderson Lab. Mezzo-soprano Alicia Hall Moran is a classically trained vocalist and composer who is equally at home in opera and musical theater settings. She starred in the Tony Award-winning 2012 revival of Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess on Broadway, composed music for the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and performed her Motown Project in venues including the Whitney Museum, Le Poisson Rouge and the Highline Ballroom. An ambitiously creative musician and composer, pianist Jason Moran is one of the most acclaimed artists in jazz and an SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director. Winner of numerous awards and honors, including a coveted MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship in 2010, the 38-year-old pianist has released a series of projects as satisfying conceptually as they are sonically, showcasing his capacious intelligence, rollicking touch, and road-less-traveled sensibility. The couple met while both were students at the Manhattan School of Music, and have collaborated numerous times for projects encompassing music, dance, theater and film. This night is a not-to-be-missed event.
