  • Marcus Shelby — bass
  • Jeff Marrs — drums

Renowned San Francisco pianist Adam Shulman salutes Money Jungle, the immortal and controversial 1963 album featuring a triumvirate of jazz legends: Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus and Max Roach. A creative force on the San Francisco jazz scene for the past decade, Shulman is a probing improviser and arranger deeply versed in the jazz tradition. The San Francisco native studied music at UC Santa Cruz and soaked up bandstand wisdom from the late, beloved piano master Smith Dobson before establishing his career as a first-call pianist and emerging bandleader. Shulman is best known as an invaluable component of bassist/composer Marcus Shelby’s Jazz Orchestra, and has also worked with major league players such as Stefon Harris, Miguel Zenón, Luciana Souza, Paula West, Larry Coryell, and Bobby Hutcherson. For this tribute to one of the most edgy, explosive trio sessions in jazz history, Shulman has assembled an iron-clad band including Shelby on bass and drummer Jeff Marrs.
