Lyric Theatre, in our 50th year of high quality live musical theater productions, offers an American musical classic.
Ragtime, a distinctly American musical style, is a synthesis of African syncopation and European classical music, including the marches of John Philip Sousa.
Ragtime, the Musical, was nominated for 13 Tony awards in 1998.
Set among the racial tensions, infidelity and violence in early 1900s New York City, Ragtime tells the story of: African-Americans, represented by Coalhouse Walker Jr., a Harlem musician; white upper-class suburbanites, represented by Mother, the family matriarch; and Jewish Immigrants, represented by Tateh.
Fully staged, with orchestra.
