Orrin Evans has been recognized as one of the most distinctive and inventive pianists of his generation. Evans combines raw-edged vigor and left-field nuance into a sound wholly his own. He is a fiercely independent artist whose projects include his Captain Black Big Band, the Eubanks Evans Experience (a duo with Kevin Eubanks,) a three-year stint with The Bad Plus, as well as his long-standing working trio. With over 25 albums to his credit, including many on the Smoke Sessions label, his recording and performing resume includes Wallace Roney, Pharoah Sanders, Roy Hargrove, Nicholas Payton, Branford Marsalis, Sean Jones, and Ravi Coltrane. Evans is a two-time Grammy-nominee, Pew Fellow and DownBeat 2018 Critics Poll “Rising Star Pianist.”
