Bait & Switch in association with YBCA Jazz@YBCA Program, Jazz in the Neighborhood is proud to present Lisa Mezzacappa’s Bait & Switch. Led by San Francisco bassist and composer Lisa Mezzacappa, ‘Bait & Switch is an avant-jazz quartet with Aaron Bennett, tenor sax; John Finkbeiner, guitar; and Vijay Anderson, drums.
Mezzacappa’s music funnels rowdy collectivity into finely honed compositions steeped in free jazz abandon, avant-Caribbean groove and garage rock attitude. “The vitality of the music is unmistakable and it is so arresting that it seems to grab you by the lapels and demand your undivided focus.” – Freejazz blog
House of Ramen youth showcase featuring Benjamin Smallson Jackson — bass, David Marcus — guitar, Ethan Ostrow — keyboards, Pele-Or Greenberg — drums, Flynn Michael Legg — saxophones.
Playing a mix of both jazz and funk, House or Ramen (Berkeley High Combo B) has been part of Berkeley High’s jazz program since 2012. All five members were individually recognized for musicianship at the Reno Jazz Festival 2014. They have also performed at numerous venues including Freight and Salvage and Yoshi’s representing Berkeley High School.
