At 36 years young, pianist Justin Kauflin has already produced eight albums as a leader, has appeared on at least 25 additional albums as sideman or guest artist and has recorded 48 original compositions for albums and film. Kauflin blind at age 11 began performing professionally at age 15. While a student at university he was taken under the wings of legendary trumpeter, Clark Terry, who subsequently asked Kauflin to join his band. His relationship with Mr. Terry was chronicled for five years to create the award-winning film, Keep On Keepin’ On, a documentary that Kauflin composed the film score for and that made the Oscars shortlist. Kauflin has also garnered numerous awards such as the VSA International Young Soloist Award, selected as a semifinalist in the Thelonious Monk Competition in 2012, and voted “Jazz Artist of the Year” in VEER Magazine.
