Johansen International Competition – JIC, established in 1997, is sponsored by the Friday Morning Music Club Foundation, Inc. The JIC is made possible through the generosity of a Charitable Trust established by the late Anna Storch Johansen of Falls Church, Virginia. Mrs. Johansen was a violinist and a Life Member of the Friday Morning Music Club. She wanted to encourage young musicians with significant prize awards at a time when they need it most and when they must make decisions about whether to continue with their dedication to music.

Past winners have gone on to win major prizes at the Naumburg, Tchaikovsky, Casals, Tertis, Cassadó, Joachim, Queen Elisabeth, Harbin, Indianapolis, and many other competitions, and they have been selected for such awards as the Avery Fisher Grant, Astral Artists, Young Concert Artists, and Jack Kent Cooke scholarships. Former JIC winners sit in principal chairs of the Toronto Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, and St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and perform in solo and chamber music concerts worldwide. More information can be found on the Johansen International Competition pages on www.fmmcfoundation.org The JIC takes place once every 3 years.
