Jennifer Wharton presents Bonegasm — a four-trombone frontline with rhythm section — for what should be a very entertaining debut at the Bach! In 2019, Wharton presented her trombone-powered ensemble via its self-titled debut album to an overwhelming response, landing the album on the jazz charts within a week. Bonegasm’s newer recording, Not a Novelty, wears its intentions on its sleeve, or perhaps more appropriately, tattooed on its arm.
Wharton is a member of three Grammy-nominated ensembles and also plays in the Generation Gap Jazz Orchestra which won the 2023 Grammy for Best Large Jazz Ensemble. She has performed on several Grammy-nominated Broadway musical cast albums as well as the Grammy-winning recording of Carole King’s musical. Wharton has also performed and/or recorded with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Dizzy Gillespie All Star Band, Ken Peplowski Big Band, Arturo O’Farrill’s Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, Birdland Big Band, Woody Herman Orchestra, and many more.
