Irish Culture Bay Area presents a weekend celebration of Irish arts and culture in a special partnership with the Presidio Theatre, featuring an inspiring showcase of the work, and stories, of a new diverse generation of Black and mixed-race artists from Ireland and the Bay Area – performers, dancers and musicians, as well as award-winning writers and historians speaking on Irish and Black history and identity, intersections of race, ethnicity and imperial legacies in the Irish and Black-Irish diasporic experience.
The weekend closes out with award-winning author, Colum McCann, whose recent book Aperigon (2020), an inspiring work that tells the story of a Palestinian and an Israeli father who each lost a daughter to war in the 1900s and early 2000s. His new book American Mother is the story of investigative journalist Jim Foley – who was held hostage and beheaded publicly by ISIS – is written in collaboration with Jim’s mother Diane Foley.
