Taking equal inspiration from Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli’s pioneering Quintette du Hot Club de France and the Western Swing of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys, the Austin-based trio of violinist Elana James, guitarist Whit Smith and bassist Jake Erwin have created a seamless and delightful hybrid that has built a global fan base and earned them a place on stage with Bob Dylan, Roxy Music, Willie Nelson, the Avett Brothers, and more.
This performance from July 2018 was filmed during their tour to promote their EP Crossing the Great Divide, a tribute to the 50th anniversary of The Band’s first two albums, The Band and Music From Big Pink. The Hot Club of Cowtown will celebrate its own 25th anniversary in 2022.
