Celebrate El Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with a full day of live entertainment, cultural demonstrations, and an eclectic mix of art-making experiences at San José Museum of Art. Decorate calaveras de azúcar (sugar skulls) and engage with your family and community. This festive event combines the traditional with the contemporary for a truly intracultural celebration.
Schedule of Events
- 11AM–4:30PM: Art-making stations including decorating your own Calaveras de Azucar (sugar skulls) and Remember Me ofrenda altar frames.
- 12–3:30PM: Photo-op with roaming skeleton performers.
- 2:30PM: Traditional Mexican folk dance performance by Grupo Folklórico Los Laureles followed by a participatory and instructional demonstration.
- 1:30–3:30PM: Ofrenda building demonstration by local artist Phyllis Carrasco.
All-Day: See a traditional altar by artist Lissa Jones, La Calavera Catrina sculptures, and larger-than-life sugar skull sculptures.
