8PM: A Tribute to John Tchicai is a trio consisting of former members of Tchicai’s group the Archetypes. The trio will be playing selected works that have been inspired and drawn from their time playing in the Archetypes. The trio is led by Mark Oi, who played with Tchicai in various settings in the US and Europe until relocating in Seattle in 2001. In Seattle, Oi studied and taught at Cornish College of the Arts and performed and recorded nationally and internationally with a variety of groups ranging from free improvisation to reggae and world pop. Recently he has relocated to the Bay Area and returns to his roots by paying tribute to his mentor and friend John Tchicai (1936-2012).

The Luggage Store Gallery New Music Series is the longest standing experimental music series in the Bay Area, with weekly Thursday night shows since 1991. Founded by LSG Gallery Directors Laurie Lazer and Darryl Smith, the series has been curated by several Bay Area musicians.
