NYC based improvising vocalist and Bay Area native Amirtha Kidambi, and Oakland’s own Zachary James Watkins, met in the basement music venue of a bar in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood on the border of Brooklyn and Queens. Amirtha and Zachary immediately struck a chord speaking candidly about race politics in experimental music, and the rapid gentrification of their hometowns and home bases, with a silent nod to the connections between these issues in the microcosm of their artistic communities, and the institutional and systemic racism and unrest in the macrocosm of America. The conversation was brief, but a connection was made. This concert is a continuation of that conversation, in communion with POC and women in the Bay Area, expanding the dialogue from coast-to-coast in their respective artistic communities.

They will be joined by … in large group and small formations.

  • Marshall Trammell (percussion)
  • Jeanie-Aprille Tang (electronics)
  • Nava Dunkelman (percussion)
  • Lisa Mezzacappa (bass)
