More Information

Capping a year during which the presidential election cycle has shaped and crowded out public discourse, Past Tense, Future Tense looks at core issues that continue to divide us from one another: race, religious belief, immigration, military violence, collapsing economies, hegemonic histories, and the notion of nationhood. Drawing on historical references and present day issues, the artists in this exhibition use humor, wit, and satire to illuminate and engage us in these critical arenas.

Turning on the news or opening our Facebook feeds, we face a barrage of issues and comments often difficult to sort and position in relation to one another. The artists in Past Tense, Future Tense collectively participate in that discourse, offering slyly and overtly satirical commentary; helping decode the sheer volume of facts and opinions to bring us solidly into this political moment.
