“The stuff that shivers are made from, both innocent, sexy and world-weary.” — Washington Post

“…utter musical fearlessness …a complete artist – one of the jazz world’s finest.” — The New York Times

  • Karrin Allyson — piano, vocals
  • Rod Fleeman — guitar
  • Larry Kohut — bass

One of the strongest jazz singers to emerge in the 1990s, four-time GRAMMY nominee Karrin Allyson can scat with authority, deliver ballads at sensuously slow tempos, and swing with utter abandon. She’s as comfortable interpreting latter day pop tunes by the likes of Janis Ian, Joni Mitchell and Bonnie Raitt as she is singing American Songbook gems. And her diverse repertoire encompasses Brazilian standards and Parisian chanson delivered in well-practiced Portuguese and perfect French. She’s been particularly effective at focusing her wide-ranging musical interests during a two-decade run as a Concord Records artist, releasing a long string of brilliant albums that showcase her versatility and her ear for an effective concept (like 2001’s Ballads: Remembering John Coltrane with pianist James Williams, 2002’s In Blue with pianist Mulgrew Miller and 2008’s Imagina: Songs of Brasil with pianist/accordionist Gil Goldstein). Raised in Omaha, Allyson graduated from the University of Nebraska with a classical piano major. Smitten with jazz in college she honed her understated approach during a successful run at her uncle’s club Phoenix in the early ’90s. A singular song stylist and savvy bandleader, Allyson turns each performance into an intoxicating musical sojourn.
