Former Metropolitan Opera Associate Principal Cellist Samuel Magill performs Anton Rubinstein’s rarely heard Cello Concerto No. 2. The program also includes Sergei Prokofiev’s lyrical and uplifting Symphony No. 5, conducted by Music Director Barbara Yahr and Florence Price’s tone poem The Oak, conducted by Eric Mahl.

Samuel Magill has been called “…a world-class artist…” by Fanfare Magazine and hailed as “flat-out magnificent” by Lorin Maazel. His many appearances as soloist include the Schumann Cello Concerto and the Brahms Double Concerto in Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, and the Brahms and the Haydn D Major Concerto in Alice Tully Hall.
