  • Mike Reed — drums

Attention, this is a living legend that we have the opportunity to host for this 12th edition, in the person of Wadada Leo Smith! One day perhaps dare do we say that Bill Evans was simply wrong when he thought that Miles Davis had “a kind of beauty to which we had never faced before that and that has not been faced since.”

Wadada Leo Smith, a trumpeter that has traveled our planet: the United States, South (Mississippi, where he grew up among the titans of the Delta Blues) in the North (Chicago, where he won the AACM and develops its concepts of “New World Music” and ” Rhythm-Unit “) from east (Connecticut, where he developed his method, the Ankhrasmation, and publishes his first test) to West (California where he holds the Chair” Dizzy Gillespie “at the California Institute of the Arts and developed the improvisation of African-American Music Program); the Indonesia, Japan, and finally Europe.

Mike Reed is simply one of the greatest drummers and conductors of modern jazz. Linchpin of the new generation of the AACM, creator of the Pitchfork Music Festival, coordinator of the Emerging Improvisers Organization and Umbrella Music Festival, this magician chopsticks is a safe bet. Born in Biclefeld, Germany, in 1974, Mike Reed grew up in Chicago. This is a connoisseur and lover of tradition chicagoane yesterday and tomorrow – Ancient to the Future – there he became a musician (drummer with Fred Anderson, David Boykin, Nicole Mitchell, and his mentors of ‘AACM such Wadada Leo Smith, Douglas R. Ewart and Roscoe Mitchell), conductor (with its formations “Loose Assembly,” “People, Places & Things” …), but also producer and activist.

A more than promising encounter …!
