Founded by Stuart Bousel, Victor Carrion, Bennett Fisher and Brian Markley in the fall of 2009, the SF Theater Pub operated out of the Cafe Royale from January 2010 through July 2013, playing on traditional theater “dark nights” like Mondays and Tuesdays, producing a different show each month, every month, for over three and a half years. Productions ranged from staged readings of classic Greek plays to fully produced Shakespeare productions, festivals of new works by local writers and annual musical theater concerts. They have also brought work to the Plough and Stars, Borderlands Bookstore, and Red Poppy ArtHouse. Beyond the bars, The San Francisco Theater Pub acts as a co-producer with other organizations such as the Bay One Acts Festival, where they have been a producing partner since 2011, the San Francisco Theater Festival, where they contributed a show in 2010 and 2012, and the EXIT Theatre, where they produce a monthly event, Saturday Write Fever, that brings local writers and actors together to create spontaneous theater. The Pub also maintains an online presence (www.sftheaterpub.com) that seeks to represent the voices, thoughts and concerns of the indie theater community of San Francisco, and organizes events that encourage inter-company collaboration and fraternization. In January of 2015 the Pub began performances again, alternating between The Hall and PianoFight venues.

Mission Statement: “The San Francisco Theater Pub produces re-imagined classics and scripted original works, as well as creative and social events, preferably in a casual bar environment or other non-traditional venue, emphasizing collaboration and connection between new and established theater artists and audiences.”
