“… one of the greatest bassists…” — The Guardian
Bass virtuoso Stanley Clarke’s new recording, The Stanley Clarke Band: UP, rallies friends old and new to revisit “School Days,” bass folk songs and more set to be released September 30th on Mack Avenue Records. Clarke considers UP to be the most energetic, fun, rhythmic and upbeat album that he has ever done and with more than forty albums under his belt, that’s saying quite a lot. Clarke’s signature bass virtuosity and amazing technical acumen is present throughout, but the enjoyment he had in making this album is also apparent. Unlike his predominant acoustic bass work on the last few albums, UP is almost equal electric and acoustic bass. The album features members of his current touring group – acoustic pianist Beka Gochiashvili; keyboardist Cameron Graves; and drummer Michael Mitchell – as well as an exciting mix of up-and-coming musicians and legendary veterans. Moving seamlessly between acoustic and electric formats, the group unveils new compositions and re-invigorates vintage themes.
