Over our decades of making local theatre The Shotgun Players have come across some great performers from the Bay Area’s delicious subculture: solo artists, comedians, and wildly innovative performance collectives to name a few. It hasn’t always been easy to find a place for these inspiring performers in our mainstage season, but sometimes we have available nights and the bar is always open!
This summer Shotgun presents some bonus programming that combines the intriguing work of these exciting theatre artists into a month-long showcase from July 23 – August 19.
- Written and performed by Josh Kornbluth, in collaboration with David Dower
- Directed by David Dower
One day, looking at himself in the mirror while shaving, Josh came to a shocking realization: he looked like Ben Franklin! This discovery set him on a journey to learn enough about the “First American” to make a one-man show about him. In the process, Josh found out about Ben’s disastrous relationship with his son, William, who became the most rabid Loyalist in the Colonies — and thus his father’s bitterest enemy. A historical mystery as well as a raucous family comedy, Ben Franklin: Unplugged takes Josh from Berkeley to New York, and finally to the Benjamin Franklin Papers at Yale University, where the archives reveal some shattering truths.
- Runtime: 1 hour and 45 minutes, with one intermission
