Anthony Wilson’s Seasons Guitar Quartet, originally organized to perform his composition, Seasons Guitar Suite, at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, has developed into a wonderful long-running project. Wilsons’s inventive compositions focus on delivering a unified chamber ensemble, leaving plenty of room for all band members to improvise and express their individual creativity on a variety of grooves: blues, jazz, bluegrass, Brazilian choros and samba. It’s a sonorous palette that DownBeat magazine describes as, “Nothing short of gorgeous.”
