For this special Joe Henderson Festival Hotplate, saxophonist Ranzel Merritt performs the immortal music from Henderson’s 1966 Blue Note album.
A serious young musician, composer, and producer, Merritt is the son of acclaimed drummer Ranzel Merritt, Sr., veteran of work with David Murray and Pharoah Sanders. The saxophonist was mentored by Murray and is a former member of the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars, now a teaching artist with the SFJAZZ Education department and alumni of the New School in New York.
