Get ready to stomp and groove. The jazz-loving blues harmonica master Mark Hummel has assembled a killer group for the 23rd installment of his Blues Harmonica Blowout, this year paying tribute to the iconic Sonny Boy Williamson. A Bay Area resident for four decades, Hummel has defined the West Coast blues sound, leading the Blues Survivors and performing alongside Charles Brown, James Cotton, Charlie Musselwhite and Willie “Big Eyes” Smith. One-time Muddy Waters band harmonica ace Jerry Portnoy praised for Hummel for his “tremendous chops and great knowledge, not only of traditional blues harmonica but other music as well – R&B and swing and big-band jazz.” Joining Hummel for this highly-anticipated series of performances will be British blues legend John Mayall; guitarist Charlie Baty and the singing harp player Rick Estrin of Little Charlie and the Nightcats; and the soulful singer and harmonica blower Curtis Salgado, a graduate of the Santana and Robert Cray bands who was named the 2013 Blues Music Awards’ B.B. King Entertainer of the Year.
