On April 14, the San Francisco Yiddish Combo will be hosting the North Bay Jewish Music Festival at the Polly Klaas Theater. This event will run from 2-4 PM and feature two exciting musical acts performing Jewish music and beyond, plus a guest speaker.
The San Francisco Yiddish Combo will be headlining the second year of this festival, and will be joined by internationally-traveling cantorial soloist and a cappella music performer Stephen Saxon, and guest speaker Dr. Elaine Leeder, professor emerita of Sociology from Sonoma State University will be giving a humorous talk.
Held at the Polly Klaus Theater, the afternoon will begin with a performance by Stephen Saxon, who has created a unique cycle of songs that reference traditional Jewish music in an exciting new way built around his well-known powerful bass vocal skills.
This will be followed by a short humorous talk from Dr. Leeder on the expressiveness of the Yiddish language. To finish the afternoon, the San Francisco Yiddish Combo will perform a wild Klezmer concert.
The San Francisco Yiddish Combo was formed by accident when a love of Klezmer music collided with their collective backgrounds in every genre except Klezmer. Now they have embarked on a journey around the world to present their own unique blend of everything that is Klezmer, mixed with years of experience in the jazz, blues, folk, and even hip hop world. This group performs Klezmer for the 21st century!
