The California Symphony performs Mozart’s masterpiece Gran Partita in a program showcasing the unique sounds of woodwinds, brass, and percussion. In the 1984 movie Amadeus, Mozart’s rival Salieri hears the Gran Partita and famously proclaims, “It seemed to me that I was hearing the voice of God.” Richard Strauss’ wrote his lyrical Serenade for winds when he was 17-years-old. Also, on the program is American maverick composer Lou Harrison’s quirky Concerto for Violin with Five Percussionists, featuring Concertmaster Jennifer Cho. The California Symphony takes the stuffiness out of the concert experience with a signature concert cocktail, photo booth selfies, and a pre-concert talk.
