Only occasionally — a few times in a generation, even — does a pianist come along who seems to have gobbled up and processed so much music, their style can make sense of both jazz’s history and its present in a single motion. Micah Thomas is one of those players.

From Columbus, Ohio, not even 30 years old, pianist Micah Thomas has already been turning heads. Having graduated in 2020 from Julliard he has been touring both as a leader of his own trio, but also as a steady member of saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins’ Quartet, and as a sideman for Ambrose Akinmusire, Lage Lund, Billy Drummond, Joel Ross, Nicole Glover, Melissa Aldana, Etienne Charles, Harish Raghavan and many others. He has released 3 albums to positive reviews and more recently his album Reveal which features Dean Torrey on bass and Kayvon Gordon on drums, was named best album of 2023 by the New York Times. More recently he was dubbed a DownBeat rising star.
