Love and innocence give way to power and madness when Tom Rakewell makes a devil’s bargain with Nick Shadow. Tom leaves his simple life in the country and his fiancée Anne Trulove for the temptations of London, but finds he has lost more than he has won. Stravinsky’s intricate score and W. H. Auden and Chester Kallman’s brilliant libretto build on 18th century inspirations in a way that is both true to the past and daringly modern.
Conductor: Mark Morash (Merola ’87)
Director: Robin Guarino
