Dubbed by The New Yorker as a “cello goddess,” Maya Beiser creates radical works for the cello, reimagining her instrument’s boundaries with her iconoclastic performances and recordings.
On her new album, out on April 5, Maya recreates Terry Riley’s In C as a series of ever-evolving cello loops. Enveloped by live drumming by Shane Shanahan and Matt Kilmer, Maya constructs a hypnotic, rapturous soundscape that re-envisions this classic 1964 Minimalist masterpiece, marking its 60th anniversary.
Her performance at National Sawdust incorporates spatial sound designed specifically for the venue’s immersive Meyer Constellation system.
