The exhibition features Mineer’s photographs of unique stones taken with a special lens and lights in an effort to view the essence of the other world that has been frozen in the quartz. After lifetimes of reaction, the minerals’ movement through the silica is captured and the stone we see today is a record of the passage of time. It is not just a window into another world, but into another time.
Jennifer Mineer creates photographs and jewelry inspired by geology. She received her BFA from Colorado State University and her MFA from the University of Oregon. Her work employs a wide range of materials and methodologies, such as lost-wax metal casting. They have been shown in domestic and international galleries. Her main research focuses on the intersection between digital fabrication and traditional handcraft and she always finds time to dig for rocks.
