In 2014 the Different Sounds Art ’n’ Music Festival has become one of the components of the Lublin leg of the East of Culture project, which came into fruition thanks to the joint involvement of the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the National Centre for Culture, the local governments of Eastern Poland and the creative sector.
The East of Culture (Wschód Kultury) is an ever-expanding form of cultural cooperation between cities located in Eastern Poland and the countries belonging to the Eastern Partnership. The idea behind the East of Culture came about during the course of the European Stadium of Culture in Rzeszów (2011-2012) and its follow-up Lublin edition (2012). The overall success of the project led to the furthering of the partnership between three founding cities, namely, Rzeszów, Lublin and Białystok. Together, under the auspices of the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as well as of the National Centre for Culture, the cities decided to pursue the project further, transforming it into the East of Culture Festival.
The East of Culture is the biggest event of its kind in Poland that consolidates and coordinates the activities of three cities, shaping them into a coherent package underpinned by the idea of multi-layered cultural partnership between the creative sectors of Poland and the countries of the Eastern Partnership.
The forthcoming iteration of the East of Culture will be its second manifestation. During three independent festivals we will showcase new exciting stars, unprecedented duets, out-of-the-ordinary performances and cutting-edge artistic initiatives.
