Future Travel celebrates the expanded reissue by Black Truffle Records of composer-performer David Rosenboom’s classic 1981 journey in sonic imagery with live electronics, voices, video, piano, electric violin and more. The program includes new music derived from Future Travel performed in combination with a 2024 score for creative singers, Is Existence Is. Electrified voices of the virtuosic HEX Trio singers: Molly Pease, Fahad Siadat and Scott Graff, unfold a dialogue among three personas of an emerging spirit being, interwoven with a seldom-seen 1981 film made in collaboration with legendary experimental filmmaker, George Manupelli. Together, they sonify pathways through Rosenboom’s philosophical poetry while activating banks of electronic resonators tuned to the work’s unique harmonic architecture. Instrumentation heard includes Touché II, a new software successor to Touché, a ground-breaking digital keyboard instrument developed in a collaboration by Don Buchla and Rosenboom in 1979-80.
