ONLINE BROADCAST (Recorded: NOV 3, 2019) – A special 1 hour and 50 minute broadcast!
SFJAZZ’s resident supergroup celebrates the 50th Anniversary of two of the essential albums in popular music during this performance filmed in November 2019, Sly and the Family Stone’s million-selling hit Stand! and Miles Davis’ proto-fusion landmark In a Silent Way. The concert features a guest appearance by original Sly and the Family Stone drummer Greg Errico.
Released respectively in May and July 1969 by a pair of artists connected by mutual respect, inspiration, and a commitment to artistic exploration, Stand! and In a Silent Way were beacons of hope and new possibilities during a turbulent time in American history. Sly’s classics “I Want to Take You Higher” and “Everyday People” have become timeless expressions of joy and positivity, while Davis’ evocative work on In a Silent Way pushed jazz into bold new directions. The season’s new Collective members, vocalist Martin Luther McCoy and guitarist Adam Rogers help bring these re-imagined versions of Davis and Stone’s electric landmarks to life.
