A project sparked by discussion between visionary jazz producer/arranger Bob Belden and label owner Yusuf Gandhi regarding the Indian instrumentation used by Miles Davis on his classic 1972 fusion album On the Corner, Miles from India is devoted to re-imagining Davis’ music by an ensemble made up of Miles Davis alumni, today’s jazz greats, and a host of master Indian classical musicians. Almost a decade after the Belden-produced all-star album was released, this group featuring Davis’ nephew and drummer Vince Wilburn, the late drumming icon Ndugu Chancler, bassist Daryl Jones, saxophonist Javon Jackson, khanjira virtuoso V. Selvaganesh, and guitarist Rez Abbasi came together in April 2017 to explore the rich trove of the Miles Davis songbook, from Kind of Blue to Bitches Brew.
