Kinoscope, a screening series sponsored by Media Studies, invites you to a special screening of filmmaker Eric Leiser’s experimental short films which will be introduced by the director himself and followed by Q&A with Kinoscope founder and programmer Pawel Wieszczecinski. Reception will follow the screening.

Kinoscope’s mission is to enhance the awareness and understanding of the film and filmmaking process by screening a wide variety of national and international films.

About Experimental Short Films of Eric Leiser (2005-2015)

Live Action and Animated Shorts films from 2000-2015. Subjects range from dream symbology, the sublime in nature and tragedy, stop motion animated psychodrama, funerary parlors, spiritual mystical Christian tone poems, Czech Surrealism, Magical realism and more current experiments with holography, creation/death/ rebirth experimental narratives and merging life size stop motion puppetry and sets with timelapse animation. All films are in conversation with one another and interconnected, designed to be seen as a whole work.

About Eric Leiser

Eric Leiser is an award-winning artist, filmmaker, animator, puppeteer, writer and holographer working in New York and born in California. A graduate from CalArt’s Experimental Animation program, he creates animated and live action feature films and shorts as well as works integrating animation, puppetry, painting, holography, live performance and installation. Leiser is interested in how animation transforms perception when it is combined with live action space, creating a fantastical, spiritual and surrealistic quality.

His most recent solo exhibitions include the United Nations in New York, Galerie du Haut Pave Gallery in Paris, Sound of MU Gallery in Oslo, Flux Factory through Holocenter in New York City, Fringe Exhibitions Gallery in Los Angeles, Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing and the Ruben H. Fleet Space Museum in San Diego. Group exhibitions include Spencer Brownstone Gallery, Cabinet Magazine, Mass MOCA among others.

His animated/live action films have been shown at the Museum of Modern Art Antwerp, Victoria and Albert Museum, The Istanbul Modern Museum of Art, MoMA, New Museum, The MIT Museum, The Ruben H. Fleet Space Museum, Thessaloniki Contemporary Art Museum, Centro Cultural Ricardo Rojas Museum de Buenos Aires, MASS MoCA,(BFI) British Film Institute, Four-Dimensions Space Art Museum, Beijing, CAFA Beijing, Aster Arts Plaza Hiroshima, Anthology Film Archives, Los Angeles Filmforum, REDCAT, San Francisco Film Society, Goldsmiths College London, California Institute of the Arts and the School of the Art Institute in Chicago among others. An upcoming screening at the Wexner Center is scheduled for Fall 2016.
