CMC Woodwinds faculty David Steinberg presents works featuring a combination of live instrumental performances paired with electronic and sampled elements inspired by jazz, R&B, gospel, musique concrète, and avant garde. The program seeks to explore how social media and “lifestyle content” impact our priorities and perception of ourselves. These avenues perpetuate the notion that consumerist habits, imbued with the pretense of social activism or spiritual enrichment, can fill the void that traditional—but now largely unattainable—sources of meaning, such as owning a home, raising a family, or working in a field that provides both a strong sense of purpose and a living wage, have left behind.
This faculty concert series is made possible by support from the Shenson Foundation.
