I’ve been working on two new recordings these last few years (2019/2020/2021), with two amazing bands, doing new jazz versions of some of my favorite pop songs from the 60s through the 90s. I’m a child of the 70s, and that generation had a whole lot of love and hope for mankind. We also were touched by horrors that were happening around the world, and wanted so much to heal it all. These artists and songs were important for us, and spoke to these things.
These last few years have rocked our worlds. Between politics, health, racism and unmasking heretofore unimaginable happenings on our planet…I feel very strongly that sentiments in these songs address the state of the world now. I want to share with you what’s in my heart.
The most brilliant and sensitive band and arrangers on this project: Anthony Wilson – guitar, Josh Nelson – piano, Lorca Hart – drums, and Edwin Livingston – bass. Vocals by myself and my incredible guest, whom I feel truly honored to have with me here, Mon David. (unfortunately my second guest on the CD album, Paul Jost, cannot be here for the party! But we will have several other special guests!) Thank you to all the composers, for giving us the most beautiful connections to God and ourselves through music.
And I’m very happy to be on Origin Records with this project. Thank you, John Bishop, for inviting me into the family!
