“Electric Naturalism” is a group exhibition of the work of five Los Angeles artists living east of the 405 freeway. Influenced by surrealism, pop culture kitsch, and architecture, these artists find inspiration in the spaces falling in-between our assumptions of what Los Angeles is.
These five artists re-imagine the environment, wildlife, social connections, and suburban space. Painting, sculpture, film, and photography document the alchemy holding together the unforgiving urban desert that is the Los Angelino landscape.
The eastern part of Los Angeles is not seen so much in mass media. It is where biology, ecology, sociology, urban planning and materialism fuse together under the blistering desert sun like broken glass in a furnace. There is a color and quality of brilliant Mediterranean light there, which exists nowhere else in America but Southern California.
