Book of J comes together to study and sing in Kislev, the month of dreams. Come at 7PM if you want to learn about Jewish dream interpretation, including Talmudic wisdom such as “All kinds of vegetables are a good sign in a dream, except turnip-tops. Stick around because at 7:30PM we will perform and sing some Kislev-appropriate songs. At the end, we will all go outside and greet the Kislev moon together. Book of J is Jewlia Eisenberg and Jeremiah Lockwood. For this performance we have a special visitor: Cynthia Taylor of Charming Hostess!
Jewlia Eisenberg works at the intersection of voice, text and diaspora consciousness, often with her ensemble Charming Hostess. She has released four CDs on Tzadik’s Radical Jewish Culture series including Sarajevo Blues, which sets Bosnian resistance poetry, and Trilectic, a look at the political-erotic world of Walter Benjamin.
As a young man, Jeremiah Lockwood apprenticed with blues legend Carolina Slim and simultaneously studied and performed with his grandfather, Cantor Jacob Konigsberg. His band, The Sway Machinery, has performed around the world, perhaps most notably at the Festival au Desert in Timbuktu, Mali.
