The Aurora Water-wise Garden covers 10 acres in the middle of the city, a beautiful botanical display of low-water plants and techniques. The garden is located at the northwest corner of Alameda Parkway and Chambers Road and is open daily from dawn until dusk.
Built in 2002 to serve as an example of low-water landscaping, the garden includes a variety of clearly labeled water-wise plants to help you take home ideas for your own yard. Signs throughout the garden explain the seven principles of xeriscape. Join us for one of our many free water-wise classes held in the garden each year and learn more about creating your own low-water landscape.
The garden requires very little water and uses only reclaimed water (nonpotable water) from Aurora’s Sand Creek Wastewater Reclamation Plant to irrigate. Reclaimed water is water that has been treated, but is not suitable for drinking. The majority of the city’s parks, golf courses, and open spaces are irrigated this way. Using reclaimed water lessens the impact on the city’s drinking water supply.
