Situated in historic Ross Alley in San Francisco Chinatown, 41 Ross is a collaboration between the Chinatown Community Development Center and the Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco. 41 Ross is an active community space that brings together the general public including local residents, neighbors, and visitors to engage in art and culture making activities. More than an art gallery, 41 Ross is a community resource space and interactive studio that promotes dialogue, appreciation, and creative engagement around the local culture practice by everyday people in Chinatown. Its cultural programming serves to activate Ross Alley and other public spaces in Chinatown.

ABOUT THE PARTNERING ORGANIZATIONS

Founded in 1977 by five grassroots groups, the Chinatown Community Development Center builds community and enhances the quality of life for San Francisco residents through advocacy, development and management of affordable housing and comprehensive neighborhood improvement.

Founded in 1965, the Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco sparks intercultural discovery through art, education, and engagement.

PROGRAMS

41 Ross launched in 2014 with the Keywords School by Chinese Artist Xu Tan who led a group of Chinatown youth participants on a journey to develop their art work and connection to community. 41 Ross was also used as a studio for the creation of a mosaic mural in nearby Hang Ah Alley by Chinatown youth participants and local artist Rita Soyfertis. On Thursday, July 9, 2015, 41 Ross officially opened with an opening photography exhibition entitled, Come and Go.
