Seen/Unseen: Terri Lyne Carrington – composer; Edmar Colon – orchestrater, conductor; Mickalene Thomas – live improvised visuals (full 15-piece personnel below)

During her 40-year career, SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director Terri Lyne Carrington has established herself as one of the most respected and in-demand drummers in jazz. Just ask Herbie Hancock. Or Wayne Shorter. Or Esperanza Spalding. Or the National Endowment for the Arts, which awarded her the title of NEA Jazz Master in 2021. Carrington keeps evolving: She is increasingly busy as a composer, educator, bandleader, and producer — and as an advocate for gender equality in jazz.
