“Remarkable, beautiful, towering voice…” — The New York Times

“Harvey Wainapel established himself as one of the most promising and versatile jazz saxophonists of his generation.” — All Music Guide

  • Claudia Villela – vocals
  • Harvey Wainapel – woodwinds
  • Bob Basa – guitar

Brazilian-born vocalist Claudia Villela and renowned San Francisco saxophonist Harvey Wainapel come together to revisit Getz/Gilberto, the classic 1963 Stan Getz collaboration with Joao Gilberto that defined the bossa nova sound and became one of the best selling jazz recordings of all time. Since her move to the Bay Area in 1984, Villela has developed a reputation as a singularly unique singer, pianist and composer, lending her five-octave voice to work with jazz luminaries including Kenny Werner, Michael Brecker and Toots Thielemans. She released three scintillating albums before taking a hiatus from performing, and makes a welcome return in the Joe Henderson Lab. Wainapel is a perfect choice to interpret this landmark meeting of jazz and Brazil, having worked extensively with Brazilian stars Airto Moriera, Flora Purim and Dori Caymmi as well as jazz giants McCoy Tyner, Joe Henderson and Joe Lovano. He performs regularly with guitarist Paulo Bellinati and the Berkeley Choro Ensemble, and has released five albums as a leader in both jazz and Brazilian settings.
