For his second Season 2 engagement, Percussion great and Resident Artistic Director John Santos will feature his superb working band, joined by legendary Cuban vocalist Ernesto Oviedo. A master of the romantic bolero song style, Oviedo is a national treasure in his homeland and has toured the world as one of the great ambassadors of Cuban song. Despite his worldwide fame, Oviedo had never been to the United States before his show-stopping appearance with Santos during the percussionist’s Season 1 residency at the SFJAZZ Center. In the words of Santos, “He brought the house down. He was the perfect addition to the program, representing the elders.” This performance, entitled “Siempre Clásico,” will focus on some of the timeless romantic songs of Havana, delivered by a living legend of the music. We are proud to have had this Cuban singing icon make his American debut in Miner Auditorium, and it is an honor to welcome him back.
