“Singing from the heart … Jackie bridges gaps between both geography and generations.” — Billboard

“One of the outstanding jazz vocalists of her generation and, quite possibly, of all time … rivaling the dexterous sass of Sarah Vaughan, the instinctive smarts of Carmen McRae and the scintillating verve of Diana Krall.” — JazzTimes

  • Jackie Ryan – vocals
  • Charles McNeal – tenor saxophone
  • Jon R Burr – piano
  • John Wiitala – bass
  • Akira Tana – drums

JazzTimes magazine calls Jackie Ryan “one of the most outstanding vocalists of her generation,” and it’s difficult to disagree. The Bay Area native has been on the rise since the late 1990s, when her acclaimed debut album, For Heaven’s Sake, made a big splash on the jazz scene, and the accolades have continued to flow in ever since. A singer of Mexican and Irish descent, Ryan has lent her sublime voice to work with jazz heavyweights Clark Terry, Toots Thielemans, Jon Hendricks, Ernie Watts and others, and released seven superb albums. Her latest recording, Listen Here, was produced and arranged by Grammy-winning bassist John Clayton, and soared to the number one position on JazzWeek’s national charts, staying there for four weeks. Ryan’s music encompasses a wide array of jazz idioms, from blues and gospel-flavored songs to Gershwin classics and original compositions, and this intimate show in the Joe Henderson lab promises a night of enchantment.
