“One of the best of the younger players is pianist Rolando Luna, who follows the lineage of stellar Havana pianists Chucho Valdez and Gonzalo Rubalcaba.” — International Review of Music
- Rolando Luna – piano
Enthralling young Cuban pianist and Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club member Rolando Luna makes his American solo debut with this exclusive performance in the Joe Henderson Lab following the OBVSC concert on September 22. Beginning his professional career at 15 accompanying Cuban legend Omara Portuondo, Luna succeeded the great Ruben Gonzales in the OBVSC and won the Piano Solo competition and Audience Prize at the 41st Montreux Jazz Festival. He has performed alongside renowned artists Isaac Delgado and Pablo Milanés, while his debut CD took Best Recording honors at the 2002 Cubadisco Awards, the Cuban equivalent of the Grammys. This will be Luna’s only solo performance during the OBVSC’s 2013 American tour! Don’t miss it!
