More than a trumpet superstar, Terence Blanchard is jazz’s foremost Renaissance man. A savvy bandleader, prescient talent scout, celebrated film composer, brilliant jazz writer, and influential educator, the New Orleans native is a creative force who sits at the apex of the contemporary jazz scene. For his SFJAZZ residency he’s performing with a sextet distilled from his acclaimed new Blue Note album Magnetic, a riveting session featuring elliptical tenor sax master Ravi Coltrane, Beninese guitar sensation Lionel Loueke, Cuban piano master Fabian Almazan, frightening accomplished 21-year-old bassist Joshua Crumbly, and drummer Kendrick Scott, a rising force who made a memorable SFJAZZ debut as a bandleader in the his own band last June. The Los Angeles Times described Magnetic as “overflowing with inspiration,” a feeling that is sure to sweep over audiences during this four-night engagement in Miner Auditorium.
